Wilcoxia schmollii, sometimes referred to as Echinocereus schmollii is a caudiciform cacti that is native only to two small areas in Mexico. They are considered to be an endangered species due to habitat destruction and illegal poaching. The habitat of Wilcoxia schmollii is limited to 650mi2  and there are only an estimated 250 mature plants left in the wild. The flowers are pink and funnel shaped, usually around two inches in diameter and 1 ¾ inches. The spines are wooly and pinkish to light gray. Wilcoxia schmollii are hardy to zone 9a.

Sow the Wilcoxia schmollii seeds on the surface of a well draining potting mix and cover the soil with plastic wrap or a plastic bag to retain humidity. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet, and keep between 70°F and 80°F for best results. Once germinated, slowly uncover over several days to acclimate the seedlings to the ambient humidity. Germination typically takes 5 to 160 days to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
