Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus v. polaskii is a globus to flat headed plant in the cactus family, Cactaceae. It is native to San Luis Potosi, Mexico and grows solitarily. T. schmiedickeanus v. polaskii is naturally found scattered in rocks, crevices and slopes with only its apical stem exposed from the ground. The plant has upwards curving stout spines emerging from triangular or rounded tubercles that sometimes have wool on them. The stem only grows up to around 1 to 2 inches wide and tall with a gray-green epidermis. The flowers are white, with white to pink stigmas, and bloom in the summer. Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus v. polaskii is grown as an ornamental cactus for its interesting spine arrangement, small size, and drought tolerance. The plant grows best in full sun to partial shade sitting in well draining soil. Water adequately during the summer and keep dry during winter as the species is prone to rot. Allow the soil to completely dry out in between waterings. USDA plant hardiness zones 9a to 10b.

Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus v. polaskii seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but the soil should not be soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain humidity are ideal to store sown pots. Use a well-draining sterilized soil mix. Seeds should be sown directly on top of the potting mixture and lightly covered with a thin layer of sand or potting mix, just enough to cover the seeds. Germinating pots should be kept indoors, out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F. Germination typically takes 1 to 3 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
