Tillandsia ionantha is a species of air plant native to Central America, Mexico, and has been naturalized in parts of florida. Tillandsia ionantha is very popular in cultivation for its beauty and because it is an easy species of air plant to care for. The leaves are silvery in appearance when dry because of the specialized trichomes that the plant uses to rapidly absorb water. Tillandsia ionantha do not absorb water or nutrients through their roots, the roots they do grow anchor them in the branches of trees. When the plants enter into a blooming cycle, their green leaves change into vibrant red/pink which help draw attention to their beautiful purple flowers. To care for T. ionantha, submerge the entire plant in water for 15 min twice a week, and mist regularly.
