Syringa vulgaris are hardy to zones 5-7. The common lilac is also the state flower of New Hampshire.

Cold stratify the seeds by placing them in a bag of moist sand or perlite and refrigerate the seeds for 1 to 2 months before planting. Plant the seeds ¼” deep in a well drawing potting soil and keep between  65°F to 75°F for best results. Germination typically takes 3 to 8 weeks to occur.
