The common names of Myrtillocactus geometrizans are the bilberry cactus, the whortleberry cactus, and the blue candle cactus. M. geometrizans is a large shrubby cactus native to northern Mexico reaching 15ft in height. They produce delicious small, purple, berrylike fruit. The fruit resembles the bilberry fruit (Vaccinium myrtillus) also known as the European blueberry which gave the cactus its name. Myrtillocactus geometrizans are commonly used as grafting stock because of their fast and robust growth habit. The USDA hardiness zone is 9a-11b. The monstrose form of this cactus is commonly referred to as the “titty cactus” because of its resemblance to human breasts.

Seed germination typically takes between 5-180 days. Even with ideal germination conditions, germination is oftentimes sporadic. For best results sow the seeds on the surface of well draining soil. Sprinkle just enough soil over the seeds to cover them and then water.
