Melaleuca linariifolia is a woody evergreen perennial tree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. M. linariifolia is indigenous to Australia and is commonly known as snow in summer. The tree is relatively small, growing up to 20 to 30 feet in height. The leaves are oppositely arranged and lanceolate. The bark of the tree is whitish gray and paper textured, making the species more susceptible to fires than other trees. Flowers are white and puff-shaped in large clusters of inflorescences and bloom in warm seasons. The tree is grown as an ornamental plant and for a bastardized tea tree oil that can be extracted from the plant. Melaleuca linariifolia prefers to be  grown outdoors in full sun to partial shade and in rich, well-draining soil. Water more frequently throughout the warmer growing seasons, and lessen watering during fall and winter. USDA plant hardiness zones 9a to 12b.

Melaleuca linariifolia seeds should be surface sown and lightly watered or misted into the potting mixture. Lightly add a thin layer of the potting mixture over the sown seeds, making sure light is still able to reach them. Store seeds indoors or in a shaded area and keep the potting medium moist but not soaking wet. Ideal germination temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F. Germination typically takes 2 to 3 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
