Drosera madagascariensis is a carnivorous plant in the sundew family of Droseraceae native to the sphagnum bogs and swamps of much of southern tropical Africa. D. madagascariensis is a stem-forming species of Drosera that grows stems upwards of 10 inches long. It uses its leaves to anchor itself to surrounding vegetation for support, or sprawls out across the ground if left unsupported. The carnivorous leaves grow in an alternate arrangement, covered in sticky trichomes which the plant uses to trap, digest, and absorb the nutrients from insects. The root systems of D. madagascariensis are rudimentary and are primarily used for water absorption and anchoring the plant, since nutrient absorption is primarily handled by the carnivorous leaves.

Plant Drosera madagascariensis seeds directly on the surface of a sterile organic potting medium that is nutrient poor, sphagnum or peat moss are excellent media for this species. Cover the seeds with a very thin layer of potting substrate, 1 to 2 millimeters is sufficient. Keep the potting substrate moist, but not soaking wet, and keep between 75°F and 85°F for best results. Keep sown pots inside a plastic bag or humidity dome to keep humidity high. Germination typically takes 1 to 3 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
