Cereus peruvianus monstrose, also known as Cereus repandus monstrose, monster apple cactus, curiosity plant, as well as other names, is a large species of cacti within the Cactaceae family. The species is native to Peru but now naturalized across Central and South America. It can grow in clumps up to 15 feet tall with stalks of over 6 inches wide.  This cactus has deep green to blue-gray stems with short to medium length spine sets, but many variants exist even some with no spines at all. The flowers protrude outward with a large, fragrant, white bloom. The sweet mild-flavored fruits can be between red, orange, or yellow in color and are a regional favorite. The stem and core have traditional uses in local medicines, foods, traditional construction methods and more. Cereus Peruvianus Monstrose is most commonly grown as an ornamental or living barrier plant. Cereus Peruvianus Monstrose grows best in USDA Hardiness Zones 9-11. These seeds are from a cross between two monstrose parent plants. Even with two mutant parents, some offspring will revert back to the non-mutant form. The non-mutant progeny still contain the mutant genetics and will still have a high likelihood of producing mutant offspring themselves.

Cereus peruvianus monstrose seeds should be spread across  the surface of a sterilized cactus substrate mix. Cover the seed lightly with a thin layer of substrate mix and mist the surface to settle down the soil and seeds. Cover with a humidity bag, dome, or plastic wrap. Place the container in a warm place with partial shade.  Seeds will germinate best with high temp in the day and low temp at night. Seeds should germinate within 7-20 days. Mist or bottom water when the soil is almost dry.  Even with optimal conditions some seeds may be slow or sporadic in their germination. Place established plants in full sun to partial shade. Too much shade will make cactus and succulents etiolate during growth.
