Canarina canariensis is a sprawling herbaceous perennial plant in the Campanulaceae, or the bellflower family. They produce beautiful orange-red flowers that form droplets of watery nectar. C. canariensis will die if the temperature falls below freezing. They produce edible black to purple fig like fruits full of small seeds. Canarina canariensis are hardy to zone 11.
Plant the seeds 1/8th inch deep in a well drawing potting soil. Keep the soil moist, but not wet, and keep between 70°F to 80°F for best results. Germination typically takes 30 to 180 days to occur. Even with ideal germination conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
