Yellow Brugmansia suaveolens or angel's trumpet is a softwood shrub or small tree within the Solanaceae family growing up to 8ft high. B. suaveolens have large toothed leaves and long, elaborate, drooping, trumpet-like, yellow flowers that emit a strong and attractive fragrance. Brugmansia species are native to South America, particularly the Andes. They are considered extinct in the wild, apart from re-introduced plants. Brugmansia are known widely in many Indigenous medicine practices and spiritual lore as well as a very popular ornamental plant. Brugmansia prefers rich well draining soil and grows well in full Sun with some afternoon shade in regions with hot summer heat. Brugmansia will grow quite fast with regular fertilizer. USDA Hardiness Zones 8 to 11.
Brugmansia suaveolens seeds should be planted no more than 1/4 deep in a rich, well draining soil mix. Use a humidity bag or plastic wrap over your container to keep the soil moist. Keep seeds around 70F for best results. Germination typically occurs within 2-4 weeks. Even with optimal conditions, some seeds may have slow or sporadic germination.
