Aloe striata, commonly called Coral Aloe, is a perennial succulent belonging to the Asphodelaceae family in the order of Asparagales. The native range of this species is the Cape regions of South Africa. Aloe striata commonly occupies rocky sloped areas and may be found growing solitary or in groups. This species will exhibit a soft green and almost bluish hue, if stressed or exposed to excess sunlight this coloring will show mild peach gradients along the edges. Regardless of what hues are on display, they stay true to their striata species name by featuring frequent  stripes that span the entirety of each leaf. Another feature to appreciate for Aloe striata is its frost resistance, noted to withstand temperatures as low 20°F. When flowering, a variation in color ranging from a mild golden yellow to a radiant pinkish orange may be enjoyed as 1 to 3 sets of inflorescence grow up to 2 feet above foliage. This species makes for a unique ornamental with its oblong striped foliage, and will do well in USDA hardiness zones 9a to 11b.

Plant Aloe striata seeds directly on the surface of a well draining potting soil mix. Sprinkle a very thin layer of and or potting mix over the seeds, just enough to partially cover them. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet, and keep between 70°F to 80°F for best results. Germination typically takes between 2 to 4 weeks to occur. Keep sown pots in a bright, well ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
