Stevia rebaudiana, commonly called sweet leaf, sugar leaf, candy leaf, as well as other names. S. rebaudiana is a perennial plant in the Aster family of Asteraceae. Stevia rebaudiana grow 1-2 feet tall with oblong leaves protruding from the stems. Stevia is native to Brazil and Paraguay. S. rebaudiana is often grown for its leaves, which are dried or made into an extract for use as a sweetener. Flowers are generally pruned to improve the flavor of the leaves.  USDA Hardiness Zones 8-11

Sow the Stevia rebaudiana seeds in a well draining sandy soil mix and keep moist, but not soaking wet. Keep the soil between 70°F and 75°F for best rest. Seeds should begin sprouting within 1-3 weeks. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic. When seedlings are established they can be transplanted to small containers and will thrive at temperatures above 50°F.  When transplanting outside, place in full sun to light shade and water frequently during hot temperatures.
