Stenocactus vaupelianus, also referred to as S. albatus, is a short globus perennial cactus plant in the family Cactaceae. The plant is native to Mexico and preferes rocky mineral rich soil. The stem is 3 to 4.7 inches wide and tall with wavy ribs all around it. Yellow needle-like central spines protrude out of white felt covered areoles. Radial spines surround these and are white, thin, and curved onto one another. Flowers grow apically and are pale yellow to creamy white and pink. This species is grown as an ornamental plant for its small size and showy flowers. Full sun to partial shade in a well draining soil mix is ideal. Water adequately during summer and keep dry during winter as the species is prone to rot. USDA plant hardiness zones 9b to 11a.

Stenocactus vaupelianus seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but soil should not be soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain moisture are ideal to store sown pots. Use a well draining sterilized soil mix. Seeds should be surface sown and not covered. Germinating pots should be kept indoors out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F. Germination typically takes 1 to 3 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
