Sequoiadendron giganteum, or Giant Sequoia, is the largest tree species by volume on Earth and is native to the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. In cultivation, it can reach 60–100 feet (18–30 meters), though wild specimens exceed 250 feet (76 meters). This evergreen conifer has thick, reddish bark and soft, bluish-green scale-like foliage. Extremely long-lived and fire-resistant, it prefers full sun and deep, well-draining soils with consistent moisture. A stunning specimen for spacious landscapes and arboretums. Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 6–8.

To germinate Sequoiadendron giganteum seeds, stratify for 30–45 days at 35–41°F (2–5°C) in moist peat. After stratification, sow seeds on the surface of a well-draining conifer mix and press lightly—do not cover. Maintain temperatures around 65–70°F (18–21°C) and keep the medium lightly moist. Provide bright, indirect light. Germination typically occurs in 2–4 weeks. When seedlings develop true leaves, transplant into deeper pots and grow on in cool, sunny conditions.
