Rebutia krainziana, also referred to as, Rebutia marsoneri, is a low growing globus perennial plant in the cactus family, Cactaceae. The plant has a dark green stem that has small tubercles that house very thin, short, soft, and white spines. It grows to be 3 inches wide and 4 inches tall. R. krainziana is grown as an ornamental for its compact size and large bright colored flowers that are red to yellow and bloom in spring. The plant thrives in well draining soil and full sun to partial shade. It should be more frequently watered during summer and less in cooler periods such as winter. USDA plant hardiness zones 9a to 11b.

Rebutia krainziana seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but soil should not be soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain moisture are ideal to store sown pots. Keep the sown seeds well ventilated to prevent fungal growth. Use a well draining sterilized soil mix. Seeds are extremely small and should be directly sown on top of potting mixture (NOT BURIED). Germinating pots should be kept indoors out of extreme light and heat. Keep sown seeds between 75°F and 85°F for best results. Germination typically takes 1 to 2 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
