Pinus thunbergii also known as the Japanese black pine or kuromatsu (黒松) in Japanese, is a pine tree endemic to the coastal regions of Japan. P. thunbergii handles pollution, salinity, and poor soil conditions well which is one of the reasons they are widely used in landscaping. They have been used traditionally for bonsai for hundreds of years. The trees can reach up to 120 feet in height in their natural habitat. Hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 6-9.

Plant the seeds ¼” deep in a well draining potting soil. Keep the soil moist but not soaking wet. Seed germination typically takes 10 to 40 days.
