Parodia warasii is a short clustering or singularly columnar growing perennial cactus of the Cactaceae family. Parodia warasii is native to Brazil and grows primarily in cracks within rocks and cliffsides. The main stem grows up to an average of 26 inches tall and 12 inches wide with a bright green skin. Ribs are parallel to the stem growth with glochids containing thin needle-like spines that are yellow in color. This is an ornamental plant that is grown for its bright yellow flowers and intricate body as it tends to either cluster or become singular and robust. Flowers bloom in late summer and protrude from the apex of the stem. Partial shade and well draining soil is ideal. Water adequately during the summer or hot periods and lessen during the winter. USDA plant hardiness zone 10a-11b.

Parodia warasii seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but soil should not be soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain moisture are ideal to store sown pots. Use well draining sterilized soil with some organic matter. Seeds should be sown on top of potting mixture and not covered. Germinating pots should be kept indoors out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F. Germination typically takes 1 to 3 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
