Ferocactus pilosus, also known as the Mexican lime cactus or Mexican fire barrel cactus, is native to the Chihuahuan desert in northern Mexico. The cactus has red spines and beautiful orange-red flowers. Ferocactus pilosus is a barrel shaped, columnar, deep ribbed species with a clumping growth habit. Ferocactus pilosus grows up to 8 feet in height. USDA Hardiness zone 9-11.

Seed germination typically takes between 1 to 20 weeks. Even with ideal conditions germination is oftentimes sporadic. For best results; sow the seeds by placing them on top of well draining soil, then sprinkling just enough soil over the seeds to cover them and then water gently.
