Crinodendron patagua, commonly called patagua or the lily of the valley tree, is an evergreen tree in the Elaeocarpaceae family native to Chili. C. patagua have white, bell-shaped, waxy flowers and a capsule-shaped fruit that becomes orange when mature. The trees are useful for honey production in their native region and the tannins in the bark are useful in tanning leather. C. patagua wood is sometimes used in furniture construction. It is a relatively easy plant to cultivate and is commonly grown as an ornamental tree used in landscaping. USDA hardiness zones 8 through 10.

Sow the Crinodendron patagua seeds on the surface of a well draining potting mix. Sprinkle just enough soil on the surface to cover the seeds. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet. Place the seeds in a bright area between 60°F and 70°F for best results. Seeds typically take 1 to 4 months to germinate, but can take longer. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
