Arrojadoa rhodantha v. aureispina is a species of cacti native to Brazil. Plants grow in clumps of cylindrical shaped stems that grow up to 3 feet tall covered with numerous golden spines measuring up to ½ inch long. Stems typically have 14 ribs and get up to 2 inches in diameter. Arrojadoa rhodantha produce cephalium at apexis consisting of long brown hairs, from which clusters of pink to red flowers emerge. Individual flowers are tubular and are just over an inch in length which yield small berry-like fruits.
Plant the Arrojadoa rhodantha v. aureispina seeds directly on the surface of a well draining potting soil mix and sprinkle a thin layer of soil over the seeds, just enough to cover them. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet, and keep between 65°F and 75°F for best results. Humidity improves germination, so covering the pot with plastic wrap, a plastic bag, or a humidity dome may be beneficial. Germination typically takes 1 to 4 weeks to occur. Once seeds have germinated, reduce humidity and allow the soil to dry out in between waterings. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
