Armatocereus cartwrightianus, also known as Cereus cartwrightianus,  is a columnar tree like succulent in the Cactaceae family. A. cartwrightianus is native to southern Ecuador and northern Peru where it can be found growing at high elevations in steep soils. The main stem grows up to 10 feet tall with an ability to grow a crown width of 4 to 6 feet. The epidermis is blueish green and has 6 to 9 ribs protruding out which are lined with long needle-like brown spines that turn dark gray with time. Armatocereus cartwrightianus blooms in the springtime with large white flowers protruding out typically towards the apex. This species is grown as an ornamental cactus for its long bloom time and drought tolerance. Light exposure of full sun is ideal for this species. Armatocereus cartwrightianus does best in breathable containers filled with well draining inorganic soils.  Water adequately, allowing the soil to completely dry out before watering again. USDA plant hardiness zones 10a to 12a.

Armatocereus cartwrightianus seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but soil should not be soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain moisture are ideal to store sown pots. Use a well draining sterilized soil mix. Seeds should be sown on top of potting mixture and lightly covered with a thin layer of sand or potting mix, just enough to cover the seeds. Germinating pots should be kept indoors out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F. Germination typically takes 1 to 3 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
