Aloinopsis setifera is a small perennial succulent in the ice plant family, Aizoaceae. A. setifera is native to South Africa found growing in rocky soils. Information on specific measurements of Aloinopsis setifera can vary depending on growing conditions, but generally, it is a small to medium-sized succulent with pale green to purple leaves. Each leaf is typically lined with small fleshy spine-like bumps on the margins. The rosettes typically form compact clusters and can reach sizes of up to 4 inches in diameter. The individual leaves are half an inch wide and 1 inch long. The plant itself can grow around 8 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Aloinopsis setifera blooms in the summer with small bright yellow flowers. This species is grown as an ornamental plant for its unique leaf shape and bright showy flowers. Aloinopsis setifera grows best in well draining organic rich soil, sitting in full sun to partial shade. Water the plant adequately during winter and sparingly during summer as it is a winter growing plant. Allow the soil to completely dry out in between waterings. USDA plant hardiness zones 8a to 11b.

Aloinopsis setifera seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but the soil should not remain soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain humidity are ideal to store sown pots. Use a well-draining sterilized soil mix. Seeds should be sown directly on top of the potting mixture and lightly covered with a thin layer of sand or potting mix, just enough to cover the seeds. Germinating pots should be kept indoors, out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 70°F to 80°F. Germination typically takes 2 to 5 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
